授業題目Practical Reading and Speaking Skills
授業の達成目標This course places a strong emphasis on practical reading and speaking skills. A wide vocabulary is vital to communicative success, so new lexis is introduced and practised at every stage in the course. Vocabulary input is closely related to the topics and tasks in the modules allowing for plenty of natural recycling. Students will learn to read extracts and texts of around 100 words and answer questions on them. The speed of reading coupled with a continued level of comprehension become more of a focus as students move away from basic reading skills. Students will also be able to ask more in-depth questions about the text leading to deeper discussions with the instructor on the subject matter.
今年度の授業内容Taught using exclusively the Berlitz Method this course encompasses a wide range of reading material in the Students’ Book including factual/scientific texts, stories, quizzes, forms, notes and e-mails. These texts are integrated in a number of different ways: extended texts specifically to develop reading skills; texts which lead into grammar work and language analysis; texts which provide a model or stimulus for tasks and a model for writing activities.
準備学修 予習・復習等の具体的な内容及びそれに必要な時間についてPrereview: pre-read the textbook unit you will study in class and look up any words or phrases that you do not understand. Practice saying them out loud.

授業の運営方法In this course, students use the 'Cutting Edge Elementary' textbook. In each unit, students listen to and re-enact role-plays, and learn to use basic grammatical structures in situational contexts. All lessons conclude with speaking tasks that confirm the students' understanding and gives them the skills and confidence they need to use English in real situations. Students are required to take 2 mini-tests during the course and a final exam.
課題 試験やレポート等に対するフィードバックの方法The instructor will give feedback comments on each student in the class.
